Mid 20th Century, Original, Nancy Jo Fox taught Advanced Color at the NY School of Interior Design for 25 years. Her still lifes show her exceptional skill and understanding of color theory and design. Large collection of original modern art by Fox (19) to include: 7" by 9" still life on artist board depicting lemons and grapes, 20.25" by 18.25" unfinished portrait of a man on stretched canvas with water damage and graphite portrait of a woman on reverse, 3/4 pencil portrait of a woman on loose paper, 16" by 16" portrait of woman on thick artist board with several edge chips, 24" by 15" abstract portrait on cut artist board, 22" by 14.5" unfinished abstract portrait of couple on artist board, 24" by 15" unfinished still life of flowers in vase on cut artist board, 20" by 16" unfinished self portrait on artist board then used as artist palette with foxing, 12" by 9" unfinished portrait of woman on thick artist board, 12" by 9" still life of tulips on thick artist board signed and dated Nancy Jo Fox 1945, (2) 12" by 16" still lifes of apples, bananas, and oranges on artist board, 16" by 12" portrait of a man on artist board, 16" by 12" unfinished portrait of a woman on artist board turned into artist palette, 10" by 14" unfinished portrait of baby in crib with lamb plush toy on artist board 10" by 14" still life of oranges on artist board, 16" by 12" abstract portrait of a man on artist board with foxing, 16" by 12" graphite profile portrait of a man on artist board signed and dated Jo Fox 1950, 16" by 12" artist palette on artist board. All are unsigned unless noted. Overall condition is good unless noted.

Literature

Nancy "Jo" Fox was a distinguished art historian, educator, and author who specialized in American folk art. Career Highlights: Author: She wrote the book Liberties with Liberty (1986), which explored the history of the Statue of Liberty through folk art. Educator: She served as an instructor of Advanced Color and American Folk Art at the New York School of Interior Design. Curator: In 1986, she curated a successful exhibition for the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.
