Description

1986, Original, Liberties with Liberty: The Fascinating History of America's Proudest Symbol by Nancy Jo Fox. 72 pages. Hard cover book with dust jacket picturing the Statue of Liberty and patriotic colors. Published by EP Dutton New York in association with the Museum of American Folk Art New York in 1986. The book's publication coincided with Fox's exhibit by the same name, which explored the symbol of Lady Liberty's evolution across American folk art. The exhibit also coincided with the Statue of Liberty Centennial. Fox pursued her Masters in Folk Art at NYU and worked at the Museum of American Folk Art as a Research Associate. This idea was initially a class assignment for Fox's MA in Folk Art at NYU. This book retains Fox's notes in the margins which appear as preparation for a speech. The dust jacket has some staining but overall the book is in excellent condition. "Dedicated to my parents who gave me the greatest liberty of all --the freedom to be myself."
