Literature

George III-style mahogany secretaire bookcases originated in Britain around the 1760s during King George III's reign, evolving from the Georgian era's emphasis on Neoclassical design and fine craftsmanship. These pieces are defined by their functionality, combining a display or storage bookcase with a hidden writing desk, and are known for their use of mahogany, elegant proportions, and detailed features like glazed doors and fitted interiors. Key design elements include architectural pediments, intricate marquetry, and astragal moldings, reflecting the era's refined taste and skilled cabinetmaking
