Late 19th Century; Original, 9.75” height, 7.5” width, Acid etched glass titled “A Royal Chew or Smoke Blackwell’s Durham Tobacco Co. Durham N.C.” in a metal desk frame with a scalloped edge with decorative flowers in corners and original easel. The back of the frame has a brass plate titled “Langfeld and Cohen. Manufacturers 120-126 Walker St. New York F.H. Galpin, Agent.” Overall, appears to be in very good original condition. Please view photos. Provenance: B.W.C. Roberts Durham N.C. Tobacco Collection

An original, early-20th-century Blackwell’s Durham Tobacco advertising mirror is a highly sought-after piece of tobacciana. Genuine countertop mirrors from the W.T. Blackwell Company or Bull Durham can easily range from $500 to upwards of $3,000+, depending on the size, frame condition, and exact graphic (such as the iconic "Durham Bull"). Mirror Details: Countertop advertising mirrors were placed in general stores and tobacconists. The phrase "Royal Chew" and "Smoke" is a reference to the company's versatile loose-leaf tobacco, which was used for rolling and chewing. Langfeld and Cohen were prominent early 20th-century manufacturers of reverse-painted glass and gold-leaf signs, historically based in New York City. Their signs are highly sought after by collectors of vintage advertising, barware, and antique memorabilia.

We DO offer in house shipping. We DO NOT provide shipping estimates. We at Mebane Antique Auction Gallery, count it a privilege to be able to service our customers through our shipping department. There is no charge for labor or transportation to the post office. All items, will be packaged accordingly with USPS shipping standards or standards from which the company providing service. All packages, will be shipped in a timely manner. A timeline for items shipped will not be provided. Items will be shipped in the order paid invoices are received. Bidders are always welcome to pickup at our gallery in lieu of shipping. MAAG will not arrange shipping for oversized items. It is on the bidder to find a courier or pick up at our gallery. Online Bidders: We will add shipping charges to your invoice once we have your shipping cost. Once payment for the invoice is received, we will have our shipping department package and prepare your items for shipping. That means we automatically prepare items for shipping after payment is collected. We use the address listed on your account for shipping.
