An antique Russian gold butterfly brooch set with diamonds and pearls is a magnificent example of jewelry from the late Tsarist (Imperial) era of Russia, spanning roughly from the 1860s to the fall of the Romanov dynasty in 1917. The Symbolism of the Butterfly: In Victorian-era jewelry, the butterfly was not merely decorative; it was a deeply sentimental token. Derived from the Greek myth of Psyche (which translates to "the soul"), the butterfly was a symbol of the human soul, rebirth, resurrection, and the beauty of personal transformation.
