Currently Mebane Antique Gallery and available for preview
The U.S. Springfield Model 1842/53 Percussion Rifle Musket is a modification of the U.S. Model 1842 Musket. Originally produced as a smoothbore, .69 caliber weapon between 1844 and 1855, many were later "rifled" during the 1850s to increase accuracy and range. The resulting converted firearms are unofficially known by collectors as the "Model 1842/53" to distinguish them from the original smoothbore muskets and the new, smaller caliber rifle-muskets introduced in 1855
