Description
Mid 20th Century; Original, Estate found, Rolex Oyster Perpetual serial #904076, ref. 6105. Case: stainless steel, gold bezel, 35.5mm, Movement: Rolex cal. 745. The watch can wind and set and is running at time of evaluation. The dial has been refinished and the bracelet is a generic non-Rolex bracelet. The bracelet does not have any marking on it. Literature
The history of the Rolex Oyster began in 1926 with the launch of the first waterproof wristwatch, named for its hermetically sealed, screw-down case that protected the watch from water and dust. Its waterproof qualities were dramatically demonstrated in 1927 when Mercedes Gleitze swam the English Channel wearing one. The "Perpetual" aspect was added in 1931 with the introduction of the self-winding, automatic movement, creating the combined "Oyster Perpetual" model, a name that now signifies the brand's commitment to durability and mechanical ingenuity.
