Literature
Renaissance-style carved wood fireplace bellows, particularly those featuring cherubs (putti), were popular, ornate, and functional tools for fueling fires, heavily influencing 19th-century Revival designs. Often made of walnut or oak, these items emerged in 16th-century Italy, merging functional ironwork with elaborate carvings of cherubs, mythological figures, and masks to match grand fireplace architecture. Fox purchased this from a Connecticut auction house in 2019.
