The Procession and Ceremonies Observed at the Time of the Installation of the Knights Companions of the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath: Upon Thursday June, 17, 1725" by John Pine. It depicts the procession of the newly created Knights Companion of the Order of the Bath, with their respective coats of arms and titles below. The print commemorates the formal establishment of the Order of the Bath by King George I on May 18, 1725. The Order was created as a regular military order, although only a few military officers were among the initial appointments. The name derives from a medieval ceremony where ritual bathing symbolized spiritual purification before receiving a knighthood. The original Order consisted of the Sovereign, a Great Master, and thirty-five Knights Companion.
