Early Piedmont, N.C. walnut huntboards were tall serving tables made by local craftsmen who combined national furniture trends with regional preferences, primarily using local walnut and other hardwoods. These pieces appeared in the late 18th century as functional, informal serving counters, with their design later evolving to serve as a type of sideboard. Their history is tied to the local material culture and the diverse group of independent cabinetmakers before large-scale factory production began.
