Literature
Early Piedmont NC crazy quilts, popular from the late 1800s to early 1900s, were handmade, decorative, and often signed quilts that showcased an array of fabrics, intricate embroidery, and personal touches like initials or dates. These quilts were often collaborative, using scraps from clothing, machine-made fabrics from growing textile industries, or special silks and velvets. Signatures and embroidery were a way to commemorate personal connections, family events, or community efforts, such as a friendship quilt for a wedding or a fundraising quilt for a church
