19th Century
Currently Mebane Antique Gallery and available for preview
Meissen's "Birds and Insects" are an enduring and popular decorative motif seen on various pieces of porcelain ware produced by the German manufacturer since the 18th century. The design is a staple of Meissen's renowned hand-painted decor and is highly sought after by collectors. Naturalistic style: The pattern, also known as ornithological decoration, depicts richly detailed, lifelike birds perched on leafy branches or in flight, surrounded by various insects, butterflies, and smaller botanical elements.
